Since his return to the WWE in 2011, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has received a lot of backlash from the wrestling community regarding his overall physical condition. Rock posted photos on his official Twitter and Facebook accounts of his physique in various situations; Working out, his Halloween Costume as The Hulk, etc. and there are a lot of people who automatically think Steroids, or other performance enhancing drugs.
I will not deny that Anabolic Steroids and other performance enhancing drugs are synonymous with pro wrestling, and I am by no means an expert on the subject. But we shouldn’t cast judgement on Dwayne Johnson just because he’s in his forties and has an extremely impressive physique.
In 2012 there are a multitude of options for people in terms of physical fitness and attaining the physique they desire. There are also a number of options to do it in a natural, and healthy way. For the average Joe that wants to look “ripped” maybe Anabolic Steroids or other drugs are the only options he or she can afford. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is in a very stable position financially, and he has many more options to attain the level of health and fitness he desires.
Also the average Joe works at least five days a week, eight hours a day, which severely limits what he or she can do when it comes to exercise and overall health. The Rock is a successful movie star and part time pro wrestler, but he does have more time to work on his conditioning than that average Joe does. What a lot of people do not realize is Rock WORKS HARD! Now take a second to read that statement. Because Rock is in his forties he does have to work harder to keep his conditioning at a certain level, that’s just the way it is, when men or women reach a certain age, the body ages and slows down, PERIOD!
Now I’m sure a lot of wrestling fans will call me a mark for Rock because I’m defending him, and to a certain extent maybe they are right. If people were complaining about John Cena’s physique I’d probably be right on that bandwagon with them. Yes, I will not deny that Rock is much larger now than what he was when he wrestled full time, but in my opinion Rock doesn’t need to resort to the obvious option of performance enhancing drugs.
I notice that some wrestling fans, and the “experts” that are quick to comment on Rock’s conditioning are probably far from healthy themselves, and are probably jealous that Rock actually works hard to keep himself in good shape. Just like Steroids are synonymous with pro wrestling, to quote the late “Ravishing” Rick Rude “fat, out of shape, wrestling sweat hogs” meaning the fans, are synonymous with pro wrestling as well.
Bottom line, unless you are a medical doctor, are extremely versed in physical fitness, have extensive knowledge and training on the effects of performance enhancing drugs, don’t automatically assume just because someone is “jacked” they are juicing.
