New Documentary Featuring African American Women's Wrestling Premiering At Ohio State University


A new documentary, featuring African American Female Professional Wrestlers from the 1950's and 60's entitled 'Lady Wrestler: The Amazing, Untold Story of African-American Women in the Ring, is debuting at the Wexler Center for the Arts, at Ohio State University. A detailed description of the film is as follows. 


"Local author and filmmaker Chris Bournea’s Lady Wrestler uncovers the forgotten stories of Babs Wingo, Marva Scott, Ethel Johnson, and Ramona Isbell—African American women from Columbus who blazed a trail in the world of professional wrestling in the 1950s and 60s. Before civil rights legislation and the women’s rights movement, these athletes braved racism and sexism to succeed in a white, male-dominated profession. (82 mins., DCP)"
